"The Best Instructional Material goes to entry number...3, Mind Craft: A Digital Mind Mapping Approach for Enhanced Comprehension of Grade 7 Frustration Level Learners of Bislig City National High School for SY 2024-2025," Dr. Anrey G. Antiquina announced.

This scene on March 7, 2025, was still vivid. Early that morning, I walked into the Bislig City Cultural and Sports Center with equal parts of doubt, excitement, and fulfillment. Together with my co-researcher Ma’am Ivy Grace C. Husmillo, I had spent hours preparing our innovation, gathering data, analyzing findings, and finalizing our presentation. We gave our best, assessed and presented our work to the research committee, and while our goal was to enhance teaching and learning, we gained something even more valuable—lessons and a challenge.

The experience taught me that research is more than just answering questions or presenting an innovation. It is a journey of patience, persistence, and continuous learning, and it will always be a work in progress. It is a step toward developing better Bisliganon learners through research.

𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐉𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲

Reflecting on my first colloquium last school year 2023-2024 where I conducted basic research on assessing the accuracy of the Evalbee application, I realized that despite pouring my heart into my research, I still found room for improvement. My research paper could be more refined, my analysis more in-depth, and my confidence stronger. With these lesson in mind, I took on the challenge the second time—submitting another proposal, determined to prove to myself that I had improved and could create a study with a greater impact on our learners. I reviewed my past mistakes, sought advice from mentors, and refined my action research.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐉𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐮𝐦 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓

The journey to my second colloquium was not without its challenges. Gaining support from colleagues wasn’t always smooth as misunderstandings arose. Gathering data was equally challenging—we had to steal time just to keep up with the implementation. Balancing research with other responsibilities felt overwhelming. Would I do better this time? Was my research strong enough?

Still, I kept pushing forward, supported by my proactive co-researcher, who remained a pillar of strength throughout the journey. As we progressed, I kept reminding myself that progress matters more than perfection. This time, our research was not just a requirement but a passion project— something I truly believed in.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐓𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐕𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲

Standing before the panel and audience, I felt nervous. Who wouldn’t be, with CLMD Chief Bernabe Linog, QAD Chief Marlyne Villareal of DepEd Caraga Regional Office, and the Vice President of ASCB, Dr. Anrey G. Antiquina, right in front of us?

When the results were announced and our research was recognized as the Best in Instructional Material Presentation, I was overjoyed. It wasn’t just about the award—it was about growth, resilience, the heart we poured into our work, and the realization that success often comes from the courage to try again.

𝐁𝐞𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

Winning was rewarding, but the greatest takeaway was the journey itself. Research teaches us patience, curiosity, and the value of continuous learning. To those who feel discouraged after their first attempt, I say this: Try again. Learn, improve, and believe in your growth. Because sometimes, the second time around isn’t just better—it’s sweeter.
