Cebu City, Philippines โ President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. graced the grand opening ceremony of the Palarong Pambansa 2024 at the Cebu City Sports Complex on July 10. This annual event highlights the remarkable athletic talents of student-athletes from 19 delegations across the nation.
In his keynote speech, President Marcos emphasized the importance of sports in the holistic development of the youth. He commended the athletes for their dedication and hard work, highlighting the role of sports. "The Palarong Pambansa stands as the countryโs pinnacle of national sporting events. Today, we continue this important legacy, celebrating not just the games but the unity, camaraderie, and national pride,โ he said.
The President acknowledged the efforts of the Department of Education (DepEd), provincial government, local government units, and various stakeholders in ensuring the event's success. He reiterated his administration's commitment to supporting sports development programs nationwide.
The opening ceremony featured a parade of delegations from 19 regions. The athletes, coaches, and officials received a warm welcome from the crowd, which included local government officials, delegation officials, educators, and sports enthusiasts.
The event was marked by a spectacular display of fireworks, cultural dances, and musical performances from the pride of Cebu. The highlight of the ceremony was the lighting of the Palaro torch, led by former PBA player and now acting Vice Mayor of Cebu City, Hon. Dondon Hontiveros.
The Palarong Pambansa 2024 will feature various sports events, including athletics, swimming, basketball, volleyball, and many more.
