The Bulawanong Sulo Awards recognizes the outstanding contributions and exemplary achievements of teachers, academic leaders, and non-teaching personnel in the entire DepEd Caraga. They are the ones who who strive to create a meaningful work experience based on DepEd core values of MakaDios, Makatao, Makakalikasan at Makabansa, guided by the principles outlined by the word Matatag.
The Bulawanong Sulo, or the Golden Torch, represents layers of deep meaning. It has light, heat, and beams of illumination.

The Sulo gives out light. Through this award, we will bring to light the outstanding achievements of our co-workers. Our good Lord tells us that we are the โlight of the worldโ and that we should โlet our light shine before others, that they may see our good deeds and glorify our Father in heaven.โ Glorifying God through our good works is what we are doing here.
The Sulo gives out heat - because we want everyone to feel the warmth of our burning desire to pursue excellence in every possible way and to inspire others to do the same regardless of the circumstances.
The Sulo, aside from the intensity of its light, gives us beams that illuminate our path, enabling us to see clearly the direction we should go. The Bulawanong Sulo award tells us that our co-workers have a clear vision toward their desired destination.
The Bulawanong Sulo, therefore, is not something outside us but inside us. We all should be very proud to affirm that our awardees are our guiding light for our daily duties and responsibilities; they are our inspiration amid the tough challenges we face; and they are the beacons that give us the clarity of vision, driving us toward our goals and ambitions.
More importantly, each of us is a Bulawanong Sulo to each other. And today is our opportunity to behold and cherish each otherโs success and achievement as members of one DepEd family.
As we honor and celebrate the best and the brightest among us, let us also challenge ourselves to ignite the Golden Torch within us, to let our light shine, inspire others, and create a legacy for future generations.
