𝐏𝐀𝐔: What inspired you to create "Ang Lumilipad na Palda," and how did you develop the story to make it engaging and meaningful for your audience?

𝐉𝐃𝐕: "Ang Lumilipad na Palda" was inspired by my desire to retell stories that truly capture the hearts and emotions of the target viewers. The story touches on curiosity, belief, and the lessons we can learn when we allow ourselves to dig deeper into things that seem mysterious or frightening.

I developed the story by weaving together the elements of Filipino folklore, personal reflection, and the importance of questioning things with an open mind. The story revolves around how a little girl’s curiosity is sparked when she notices her older sister disappearing every night. Little did she know that her sister goes out each night to plant root crops, a practice that proves beneficial in many ways.

To ensure the narrative was engaging for young audiences, I crafted the characters and their interactions to be playful yet impactful, providing opportunities for both humor and deeper reflection. I aimed to balance the fantastical elements with real-life values like hard work, resilience, and the importance of learning from experience.

𝐏𝐀𝐔: Winning 2nd place in the Gawad Teodora Alonzo Award 2024 is a significant achievement. What challenges did you encounter during the production of your recorded storytelling session, and how did you overcome them?

𝐉𝐃𝐕: One of the major challenges during the recorded storytelling session was maintaining an emotional connection with the audience without the benefit of live interaction. Storytelling is typically a dynamic, face-to-face experience, and ensuring that my performance captured the essence of the story while being recorded was no easy feat. Additionally, I had to navigate technical aspects like sound quality, pacing, and editing.

To overcome these challenges, I dedicated time to practicing my delivery, refining my voice modulation, and closely monitoring the production process. We also utilized sound effects and strategic pauses to heighten emotional impact, creating a more immersive experience for the listeners.

I would like to acknowledge the invaluable support of my editor, Sir Glenn Jules Jamero, and illustrator, Sir Neil Arado, along with the entire Team AgNor LRMS, who helped bring this production to life. Though we had limited space, it never stopped us from giving our best effort.

The success of this project is a reflection of the collective hard work of Team AgNor LRMS.

𝐏𝐀𝐔: What themes or messages in "Ang Lumilipad na Palda" do you hope to resonate most with your listeners, particularly young audiences?

𝐉𝐃𝐕: I hope the themes of understanding, curiosity, and self-reflection resonate deeply with young audiences. The story talks about the importance of not jumping to conclusions based on fear or misconception, encouraging children to ask questions, seek the truth, and understand things from multiple perspectives.

It also explores the idea of not judging other people or situations without knowing the whole story. I also hope the message about hard work and resilience shines through, teaching the readers that seemingly strange or mysterious actions may have meaningful purposes behind them—just like the tradition of working hard in farming.

𝐏𝐀𝐔: As a recognized storyteller, what advice would you give to aspiring storytellers aiming to craft impactful narratives and succeed in competitions like Gawad Teodora Alonzo?

𝐉𝐃𝐕: To aspiring storytellers, my advice is to stay authentic and passionate about the stories you tell. The best stories are those that resonate with your own experiences and beliefs, so be true to yourself.

When crafting your narrative, think about the emotions and messages you want to convey—whether it's through humor, suspense, or heartfelt moments. Storytelling is not just about telling a tale; it's about making your audience feel what the characters feel and experience the world you've created.

And lastly, never stop learning. Observe other storytellers, seek feedback, and always strive to improve your craft.
