𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐎𝐄𝐒 𝐈𝐍 𝐀𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐍𝐒

𝘉𝘺 𝘏𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘪𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘦 𝘍𝘦𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘳 𝘓𝘦𝘳𝘰𝘨 𝘚𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘳𝘺 𝘚𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘭 𝘗𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘪𝘱𝘢𝘭 𝘐𝘝 𝘊𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘨𝘢 𝘙𝘦𝘨𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘚𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘏𝘪𝘨𝘩 𝘚𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘭 𝘚𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘢𝘰 𝘊𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘋𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗸𝘆. 𝗠𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗰𝘂𝗯𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲𝘀, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗲𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝘂𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗸𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘀. For these teachers, the Caraga Athletic Association Regional Sports Competition is a welcome change, a transient shift from the academic routine of nourishing the minds to the mundane buzz of feeding the body. They are called “kitchen staff,” “kitchen warriors,” “cooks and servers,” “singing and dancing cooks,” or even “the zombies” (due to the time-consuming and sleep-depriving workload.) But they prefer a more uplifting term: “commissary officials.” As soon as training begins, their transformation starts. Leaving their pens and log sheets in schools and offices, they now handle knives and aprons. The kitchen game is a game they have mastered over the years because it is essentially linked to their nurturing nature whenever they serve food to the athletes and the whole delegation. They have transitioned from wearing school and office uniforms to wearing hairnets. But above all, they provide services with great love and happy hearts. We have seen them smile and heard them laugh. But little did we notice the pain behind their smiles. Waking up earlier than anyone else, preparing the raw ingredients, cooking in large quantities, plating in, garnishing for the visuals, and the actual serving, are little things that tax them physically. But the goal remains: provide the athletes with the sustenance they need to fuel their bodies for the competitions. These kitchen warriors do not dribble, pass the ball, swim, dance, jump, leap, and score points, but they are just as victorious as the winning athletes they have taken care of, the silent heroes in the sports area.
