Salvaรฑa currently serves as the Regional Science Coordinator assigned at the Curriculum and Learning Management Division (CLMD) headed by Dr. Isidro M. Biol Jr. Edradan works at the Human Resource Development Division (HRDD), led by Dr. Flordelisa R. Dalin.
In celebrating the 2023 International Day of Mathematics (IDM), Dr. Rhea J. Yparaguirre facilitated a mini-quiz called the Tower of Hanoi Mathematical Puzzle using a web-based application. Mrs. Liwanag Garcia of the Office of the Assistant Regional Director bagged the cash prize for solving the puzzle.
According to Yparraguirre, the IDM is a worldwide annual celebration held on March 14. All countries are to participate in activities for students and the public in schools, museums, libraries, and other spaces.
Interestingly, some countries already celebrated March 14 as Pi Day. It is because Pi, the mathematical constant whose value is approximately 3.14, resembles the date if written as 3/14, said Yparraguirre.
UNESCO proclaimed March 14 as the International Day of Mathematics on November 26, 2019, during the 40th Session of the General Conference. The inaugural event took place on March 14, 2020.
Yparraguirre also noted that DepEd Memorandum No. 28, s. 2020 enjoined all schools, school division offices, and regional offices to observe and support the IDM by planning creative curriculum enrichment activities for students and advocacy activities for other stakeholders like parents, teachers, and non-teaching staff.
Furthermore, DM-CI-2021-00067, titled โObservance of the 2022 International Day of Mathematics,โ articulated the same support for the activity. The theme for the 2023 celebration is "Mathematics for Everyone." The relevant activities recommended for the day are Tower of Hanoi and Tower Of Stockmeyer, Buffonโs Needles, Mathematics Scavenger Hunt, Paper Activities, and Chaotic Dancing.
