Regional Director Maria Ines C. Asuncion, CESO IV, led the ceremony together with Butuan City Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Minerva T. Albis, division officials, school personnel, barangay and SK officials, parents, and learners of Lumbocan NHS. The event marked not only the start of another academic year but also a reaffirmation of the regionโs commitment to accessible and inclusive basic education.
In her inspirational message, RD Asuncion challenged all learners to commit to themselves to complete the school year on a strong note, assuring them that they are not alone in their academic journey. She encouraged them to not hesitate to ask for helpโfrom teachers, local barangay officials, and most especially parents, assuring them that there are more people willing to help them than they may realize. โPoverty should never be a reason to stop schooling,โ she emphasized.
Director Asuncion also shared a glimpse of her own journey as a student, recalling how she once worked her way through college as a working student. Despite financial hardship, she perseveredโbalancing work and studies with grit and faith. This personal story, she said, is a testament to what determination and a strong support system can achieve.
RD Asuncion asserted that she is very much aware of what learners are going through, as she regularly listens to the reports and feedback coming from school heads and teachers. She assured students that the DepEd Caraga leadership is behind them all the way, ready to support their needs and strengthen the systems that ensure learning continuity.
After the ceremony, Director Asuncion and division leaders also took the opportunity to check on the schoolโs reading hub, lauding the efforts of school heads and personnel who ensured that classrooms, learning materials, and support services were in place in time for the class opening.
The first day of classes across the region began smoothly, as thousands of learners in Caraga trooping back to public schools, eager to begin a new chapter in their educational journey.
