A key highlight of the day was the in-depth session on Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA), facilitated by Dr. Caroline Guerta-Dultra, Regional Education Program Supervisor for Research. The session provided participants with a deeper understanding of analytical tools in refining research accuracy and interpretability.
Dultra explained that the tools help make fair comparisons between groups by adjusting for other influencing factors. Itโs like imagining everyone had the same background conditions, so any differences seen are more likely caused by the main factor being studied and not by unrelated things.
Participants learned how this tool can improve the quality of their research, especially when dealing with many variables or comparing different groups. The session also clarified that while background factors can help predict outcomes, they donโt necessarily cause them.
These applications are especially relevant in Caragaโs diverse educational landscape, where researchers often work with non-randomized groups and need to account for contextual variables like socioeconomic status, prior academic achievement, or geographic disparities.
Each Schools Division Office, represented by a Division Research Coordinator and a member of the Pooled Data Analysts/SDRC, is expected to integrate ANCOVA into their division-level studies.
This training, which runs from August 26 to 28, 2025, is part of DepEd Caragaโs broader initiative to promote evidence-based decision-making and policy formulation through robust and systematic context-sensitive research practices.
