Regional Coordination Meeting to Boost BEFF Projects Implementation

BUTUAN CITY - DepEd Caraga Regional Director Maria Ines C. Asuncion, CESO IV, in coordination with the Education Support Services Division (ESSD) of the Regional Office, hosted a pivotal regional coordination meeting involving DepEd engineers and architects and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) engineers, today, April 11, 2024, at the R-NEAP Gold Hall, Teacher Development Center, Butuan City.  

The primary focus of this collaboration is the implementation of the Basic Education Facilities Fund (BEFF) projects, which are crucial for advancing the educational infrastructure in the region. Aiming to foster a strong partnership between DepEd and DPWH, the meeting ensured the prompt and efficient execution of BEFF projects for the community and its learners.

In her opening message, Director Asuncion recalled the challenges DepEd Caraga has faced in the last several months, especially in establishing a better learning environment for the learners. "We've been through a lot," she said, referring to the natural calamities the region had gone through. "We need to help our schools. We need floating classrooms in some flood-prone areas where families find livelihood opportunities. We need your support for this project because, even though we report to different offices, we are serving the same Filipino children," she emphasized. 

The meeting also touched on updating and validating 2024 projects, setting clear expectations and timelines for completion. The participants also discussed the detailed reports on the progress and current status of ongoing BEFF projects, highlighting accomplishments and identifying challenges that need addressing. 

Director Asuncion led the participants in reviewing the existing Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between DepEd and DPWH to ensure that all collaborative efforts aligned with the shared goals of both departments.

The meeting also tackled other topics relevant to the BEFF projects, fostering an open and collaborative environment for all participants.

The participants were engineers and architects from the DepEd Central, Regional, and Division offices and engineers from the DPWH Regional and District offices. The gathering of these key personnel underscores the commitment of both DepEd and DPWH to enhancing the quality of educational facilities in the region.

Through their joint efforts, the BEFF projects can proceed with greater efficiency and impact, ultimately enhancing the learning environment for students across the region.
