The training is designed to enhance educators' capacity to implement the LRP, which targets Grade 3 learners identified as Low Emerging Readers based on the 2024โ€“2025 Comprehensive Rapid Literacy Assessment (CRLA) End-of-School-Year results.
DepEd Caraga Regional Director Maria Ines C. Asuncion emphasized the importance of fostering a genuine love for reading among learners. โ€œWhen students begin to understand that in order to tell or read a story, they must first be able to recognize letters, thatโ€™s when real learning starts,โ€ she said.
Asuncion also urged the Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG) and Supreme Elementary Learner Government (SELG) to lead reading advocacy efforts in their respective school councils. โ€œOur goal is to spark interest in opening a bookโ€”especially among non-readers,โ€ she added.
CLMD Chief Bernabe S. Linog provided an overview of the Literacy Remediation Program, outlining its objectives, implementation strategy, and expected outcomes to guide participants in their role as school-based implementers.
Education Program Supervisor in Filipino, Maria Consuelo C. Jamera, led a session covering key aspects of the Literacy Remediation Program. She guided participants in understanding the results of the Comprehensive Rapid Literacy Assessment (CRLA), provided a detailed description of the LRP framework, and introduced the remediation resource materials that will be used to support struggling readers in Grade 3 classrooms.
Marylou M. Recososa, Reading Coordinator in Elementary and School Principal of West Integrated School in the Division of Butuan City, facilitated a session focused on mind setting and building a deeper understanding of the learners targeted by the Literacy Remediation Program. She discussed the profile of learners in the Low Emerging Reader category, shared insights on the teacherโ€™s perspective in addressing literacy gaps, and emphasized core messages for key players involved in the program's success.
In the afternoon session, Linog led a discussion on instructional supervision, highlighting key principles, coaching and mentoring strategies, and the importance of meaningful feedback. Luz Sandra R. Fernandez introduced the NLRP Dashboard and the School Weekly Report, stressing their role in tracking and analyzing learner progress. Jamera also presented the roles and responsibilities of instructional leaders, with a focus on system-level support necessary for sustainable implementation.
This regional training marks a critical step in preparing schools to implement the Literacy Remediation Program and reinforces DepEd Caragaโ€™s commitment to ensuring that no learner is left behind in foundational literacy.
