Arevalo defined technology as the methods, systems, and devices derived from scientific knowledge for practical purposes, emphasizing its role in eliminating waste and ensuring quality production. โTechnology is essential for governance and management,โ he said, stressing its importance in data-driven decision-making for education leaders.
The IT consultant highlighted that AI has the potential to foster a culture of critical thinking, which is crucial for modern educational leadership. โTechnology is a critical measuring tool,โ he explained, adding, โYou canโt manage what you cannot measure. You cannot improve what you cannot measure.โ
Encouraging participants to explore the use of AI, Arevalo emphasized its indispensable role in enhancing office operations through hindsight, foresight, oversight, and insight. He clarified, however, that AI depends on human intelligence and cannot surpass it. โAI cannot replace the decisions of teachers and school leaders,โ he stated, underscoring the irreplaceable value of human judgment in education.
In the context of the Department of Education (DepEd), Arevalo called for the creation of a school policy on AI to integrate human intelligence with artificial intelligence effectively. โAn effective learning environment in the future will be a combination of MI (My Intelligence) and AI (Artificial Intelligence),โ he remarked, urging schools to embrace AI early to enhance learning environments and prepare for future challenges.
The session concluded with a resounding call to action, as Arevalo highlighted the need for educational institutions to adapt to technological advancements to ensure they remain relevant and effective in fostering student learning and leadership in the digital age.
