In his opening remarks, Bernabe S. Linog, Chief of the Curriculum and Learning Management Division (CLMD), underscored the value of the training in strengthening teachersโ ability to deliver effective reading instruction. He highlighted that participants are beginning to grasp the full scope of teaching learners to read, not merely as a classroom subject, but as a critical life skill that underpins all learning. Linog urged educators to stay aligned with the goals of the LRP and to apply the strategies gained from the sessions to raise reading performance in their schools.
Four insightful sessions are scheduled for today, May 9, 2025, with the final two sessions set to continue tomorrow, May 10. These sessions aim to equip participants with both theoretical understanding and practical strategies to enhance reading instruction in the classroom.
Elaine Negro from the Surigao City Division opened today's sessions as the first resource speaker, leading a discussion on โMind Settingโ through an activity-based workshop and presentation of outputs. She emphasized the importance of aligning classroom activities with meaningful learning goals, sharing a quote: โTo reach the deepest level of learning, teachers and students need a clear, shared understanding of the ultimate learning goal behind each lesson.โ
Maria Consuelo Jamera, Education Program Supervisor (EPS) in Filipino, followed with Session Two, focusing on Core Messages: Communicating the Program. Her talk emphasized the importance of clearly articulating the goals and benefits of the Learning Recovery Program to various stakeholders, ensuring that the programโs vision is consistently understood and supported at all levels.
David Veloso from the Cabadbaran City Division guided the participants through the use of remediation materials. He highlighted how these tools are designed to support targeted reading instruction and help struggling learners catch up with grade-level competencies.
Roslyn E. Despe from the Agusan del Norte Division led Session Three, which focused on reviewing the Stages of Reading Development. She provided participants with a clear overview of the progression learners typically follow as they develop reading skills, emphasizing the importance of aligning instruction with each stage to ensure adequate literacy support.
To wrap up the dayโs presentations, Rose Ann Calihat from the Surigao del Sur Division led a session on Strategies for Automaticity. She shared seven effective techniques for building reading fluency and guided participants through teaching students to apply purposeful, adaptable strategies to improve comprehension.
