BUTUAN CITY, March 12, 2026 – 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗗𝗲𝗽𝗘𝗱) 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗮 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘄𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗦𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹 (𝗡𝗦𝗘𝗗), 𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀.
The activity was spearheaded by Megnon P. Beldas, Project Development Officer II and Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Coordinator, as part of the nationwide initiative to strengthen earthquake readiness across government agencies, schools, and communities.
During the drill, participants followed the standard safety protocol, “Duck, Cover, and Hold,” upon hearing the alarm simulating a strong earthquake. After the simulated shaking, personnel followed designated evacuation routes to identified assembly areas, where marshals conducted headcounts and evaluated the response time and the effectiveness of the evacuation procedures.
The NSED is conducted simultaneously across the country every quarter to promote a culture of preparedness and ensure that individuals develop the presence of mind and proper response during actual emergencies. This initiative is particularly important as the Philippines lies along the Pacific Ring of Fire, making the country highly vulnerable to seismic activities.
All government agencies, including schools, are encouraged to participate in the drill to strengthen collective preparedness and resilience.
Through activities such as the NSED, DepEd Caraga continues to uphold its commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its workforce and the entire learning community.
