On Day 1 (August 26), statisticians Ms. Caroline Guerta-Dultra and Ms. Empha Grace Perez introduced the features of Jamovi, a user-friendly statistical software, and discussed the basic foundations of statistics. They emphasized the importance of understanding these concepts to select the right test and interpret results accurately.
The sessions also tackled the differences between parametric and non-parametric tests, as well as tests of normality and homogeneityโ assumptions crucial in many statistical analyses. Participants learned how to check these assumptions and identify alternative methods when they are not met.
The facilitators further explained t-tests and ANOVA (Analysis of Variance) were explained, including their purposes, applications, and interpretation. To reinforce learning, hands-on activities allowed participants to practice running these tests on Jamovi and analyze outputs. Many shared realizations about previous research where some important statistical tests were overlooked.
On Day 2, the discussion moved to ANCOVA (Analysis of Covariance) and correlation analysis. Participants explored when to use these techniques, their underlying assumptions, and how to interpret results correctly. The session remains highly interactive, with participants engaging in discussions and hands-on exercises to apply what they have learned in real-life research scenarios. These skills are particularly relevant as participants are often tasked with reviewing and validating research studies within their division offices.
The training will conclude on August 28, 2025, with advanced applications, output presentations, and a synthesis session. Participants are expected to apply their enhanced knowledge to guide researchers in their divisions, ensure the use of proper statistical methods, and ultimately improve the quality of education research across the region.
