Cong. Alfel Bascug and Cong. Eddiebong Plaza jointly authored the bill to establish a state-of-the-art sports training facility. This facility will cater to athletes of Agusan del Sur and those in the neighboring provinces, aiming to uplift and hone their skills at national and potentially international levels.
The ADSSTC's proposed site will be within the precincts of the prestigious D.O. Plaza Sports Complex. With the proposed legislation ensuring that the center falls under the auspices of the Philippine Sports Commission, it could receive funding support for equipping it with world-class facilities.
The Department of Education in the Caraga Region applauds this legislative milestone as it impacts the holistic development of the youth. "This initiative not only promotes physical wellness and sportsmanship among our youth but also provides them with a platform to excel and potentially represent our country in various sports arenas," remarked the DepEd Caraga Regional Director Maria Ines C. Asuncion, CESO IV. "We fully support this endeavor and commend the LGU of Agusan del Sur for their forward-thinking approach to youth and sports development," she stressed.
Moreover, the DepEd Caraga leadership is enthusiastic about the broader educational implications of the ADSSTC, foreseeing a synergy between academics and sports that could significantly benefit students across the region. "Integrating sports training with academic learning fosters a well-rounded education that encourages students to pursue excellence in all areas of their lives," the Regional Director added.
This development can be considered a positive effect of the efforts of the Agusan del Sur provincial government led by Gov. Santiago B. Cane Jr., who, along with Honorable Bascug, Director Asuncion, Superintendent Carmen, and other top officials, presented their bid to host the Palarong Pambansa during the Special Board Meeting at the DepEd Central Office on March 8, 2024. In that meeting, they detailed the technical capacity of the Democrito Plaza Sports Complex as a suitable venue for the Palarong Pambansa and as a home to a world-class training facility.
DepEd Caraga congratulates everyone involved in this commendable project, particularly Cong. Bascug, Cong. Plaza, and Governor Cane, for their visionary leadership. The department eagerly anticipates the positive ripple effects that the Agusan del Sur Sports Training Center will have on the youth of Caraga, potentially inspiring future generations to reach for their dreams both on and off the field.
As the project moves forward, DepEd Caraga affirms its commitment to collaborate with the LGU of Agusan del Sur and other stakeholders in ensuring the success of the ADSSTC, marking a new chapter in the region's pursuit of sports and educational excellence.END
