Linogโs revisited the findings of various studies on the current curriculum, which revealed significant issues, including congestion, misplaced prerequisite learning competencies, and an imbalance in cognitive demand.
He emphasized that the revised Matatag Curriculum is founded on four key principles: (1) learning is hindered by an overcrowded curriculum, (2) learning competencies must be age-appropriate, (3) learning should follow a progression where complex skills build on foundational skills, and (4) learning starts from what learners already know.
Additionally, Linog highlighted the seven key features of the Matatag Curriculum, which include: decongested curriculum, focus on foundational skills, balanced cognitive demand, clear articulation of 21st-century skills, reduced learning areas, intensified values education, and strengthened peace education.
One of the significant adjustments under the revised curriculum is its alignment with industry needs, particularly in the Senior High School (SHS) program. The SHS tracks have been streamlined from six to four pathways: higher education, employment, middle-level skills development, and entrepreneurship.
Linog also presented the proposed core subjects under the revised curriculum, which include English Communication Arts; General Math; General Science; Philippine History, Society, and Politics; Personal and Physical Development; and Kumunikasyon at Pananaliksik sa Wika at Kulturang Filipino.
The Caraga Private Education Convergence was spearheaded by the Quality Assurance Division (QAD), under the leadership of Chief Marlyn Villareal. Attended by representatives from the association of private schools in the region, as well as key officials from the 12 Schools Division Offices of DepEd Caraga, the event served as a platform for education stakeholders to discuss and collaborate on the effective implementation of the revised curriculum to ensure that learners receive quality and relevant education.
