Launched in December 2023, this innovative project encourages teaching and non-teaching personnel within the Butuan City Division to voluntarily save one peso daily in an alkansya (coin bank). The accumulated funds were first opened in December 2024, with the proceeds designated to fund the construction of a one-storey classroom building, thereby providing essential learning space for Indigenous students in Mandag.
On January 28, 2025, officials from the Schools Division Office (SDO) visited the designated site for the upcoming school building at Mandag Indigenous Community School. This visit aimed to assess the location's readiness for construction and ensure the successful implementation of the program. Among those present were Anna Marie Ceniza, ALS Coordinator for DepEd Butuan City Division, and Engr. Nichael Madria, who evaluated to support the subsequent phases of development.
The initiative is bolstered by the support of Mandag's Barangay Local Government Unit (LGU), reinforcing the collaboration between the local government and the education sector. Dr. Albis emphasized the importance of this partnership, stating, "This program demonstrates how small acts of generosity can lead to significant impacts, ensuring a brighter future for our learners."
During the site visit, Ceniza and Madria, along with other stakeholders, assessed the location's readiness and outlined the next steps for construction. Their efforts highlight the program's progress and showcase the commitment of the DepEd Butuan City Division to community-driven educational development.
The "Piso, Tulong sa Katuparan ng Pangarap Ko" initiative reflects DepEd Butuan City Division's dedication to fostering a culture of shared responsibility and proactive support for education. With strong participation from educators, local officials, and the community, the project is poised to significantly enhance educational opportunities for the Mandag Indigenous Community, ensuring students have access to quality learning facilities to support their academic growth and development.
