The Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP) recently conducted an intensive training course at the GAP Training Center located at 606 Victoria Corner Basco Street, Intramuros, Manila.
The training, which ran from June 21 to July 5, 2024, attracted diverse participants, including gymnastics teachers/coaches, student-athletes, MAPEH teachers, and fitness enthusiasts.
Among the attendees was the Men's Artistic Gymnastics team from the Caraga Region. The team, composed of Cluster 2 members Jade Sabandal and Daryll Paul Madrid, along with Cluster 3 members Alfred Paden and Niño Latar, was accompanied by their coach, Cedrick Canoy, and team leader Joel Clarito. Both Jade Sabandal and Alfred Paden qualified for the 2023 Palarong Pambansa held in Marikina.
The national training was further enriched by the presence of renowned Coach Jasper M. Roxas, a former member of the Men's Artistic Gymnastics Philippine Team, who provided expert guidance to the participants. Additionally, the training was graced by two of the Philippines' finest gymnasts, Eldrew Yulo and Carlos Yulo, who have won multiple international medals.
The support of Nasipit, Agusan del Norte's Mayor, Hon. Roscoe Democrito Plaza, was crucial in enabling the Caraga Region team to participate in this training. This experience marked the first time the team could use standard apparatuses for various disciplines within Men's Artistic Gymnastics, significantly enhancing their preparation for future competitions.
With the comprehensive training and invaluable experience gained, the Caraga Region team is now geared up to compete in the 2024 Palarong Pambansa, which will be held in Cebu. Their readiness and confidence are a testament to the dedication and support of their coaches, leaders, and local government.
