The project seeks to lay the foundation for developing climate-resilient WinS facilities, services, and practices while creating learning tools for climate education and mobilizing youth for climate action. Building on this, CFSI is implementing the Enabling Climate-Resilient WASH in Schools Project (CRWinSP) in Surigao City and the Province of Dinagat Islands as part of the UNICEF-supported Typhoon Odette Recovery and Rehabilitation Towards Climate Resilience (RRTCR) Program.
The CRWinSP aims to strengthen the climate resilience of WASH facilities, services, and practices in target schools, integrate climate change education into the elementary curriculum, and promote youth leadership and participation in climate action and WASH initiatives.
Targeting 30 DepEd schools across 26 barangays, the initiative will benefit at least 5,000 children and youth, implemented in partnership with the Schools Division Offices of Surigao City and Dinagat Islands, along with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Surigao City and the municipalities of Libjo, Cagdianao, Basilisa, San Jose, and Dinagat. The project will run from November 4, 2024, to November 4, 2025.
Through collaborative efforts and a shared commitment to building safer, healthier learning environments, the CRWinSP stands as a vital step toward empowering schools, communities, and future generations to thrive in the face of climate challenges.
