Aimed at addressing environmental concerns and nurturing a generation of informed and empowered leaders, the summit convened educators, students, and stakeholders to deliberate on the critical intersection of climate change within the different ecosystems, featuring discussions, workshops, and presentations exploring the profound impact of sound environmental education, emphasizing the urgent need for collaborative action to safeguard the environment.
The Schools Division Offices (SDOs) participants were the Schools Governance and Operations Division (SGOD) chief, Disaster Risk Reduction Management Coordinator, Youth Formation Coordinator, Principal/School Head, School DRRM Coordinator, and Youth Leaders from Elementary and Secondary.
The summit provided a platform for young leaders to exchange ideas, showcase initiatives, and amplify their voices in the fight against climate change. The interactive activities, enhanced by infographics and display booths, empowered these emerging leaders to become catalysts for change in their communities.
The Closing Program highlighted the awarding of winners of the 2023 Regional Storybook Writing and Comics Writing Competitions, with Butuan City grabbing first place in both categories for their works titled โJuan at ang Ibong Agusanโ (Comic Writing) and โSi Islaw at ang Halimawโ (Story Book), written by Anselmo Oroses Jr. and illustrated by Gil C. Dayot. Agusan del Norte, with Dr. Juish Dela Victoria as the writer and Niel Arado as illustrator bagged Second Place likewise for both categories for their works titled โTakTakTakโ (Storybook) and โBatang Matatagโ(Comics Writing). Bislig City Divisionโs โMulatโ placed third in Comics Writing, with Bryan Samonte as writer and Fritzie Anne Samonte as illustrator. Surigao del Sur settled for third place for the work โBandilyo,โ written by Jade D. Fraga and illustrated by Roy Rendon.
The celebrated works contained exceptional narratives that vividly depicted the importance of environmental stewardship and sustainability.
The summit concluded with a call to action, urging the participants to continue championing environmental education and sustainable practices.
Through this activity, the Focal Person Megnon Beldad, Regional DRMM Coordinator, declared DepEd Caragaโs commitment to raising a proactive generation that finds solutions to the challenges and difficulties relative to climate change and to fostering social development through environmental education.
