Dr. Grace Y. Urbiztundo, Senior Education Program Specialist and Division Research Coordinator of Surigao del Norte, School Principal Alberto M. Orias, Jr., and the Senior High School faculty members attended the event.
Urbiztundo congratulated the students and research teachers for their findings and recommendations. Moreover, she commended the school for creating their school-based research repository that showcases the multidisciplinary research of senior high school students. She also expressed amazement over the enthusiasm of senior high school students imbibing the culture of research, noting that every research project is not an easy task.
The said activity highlighted the messages from the division and school officials, research presentations of six qualitative research projects in Grade 11, oral defense of the Grade 12 student researches, and the launch of the school-based research journal.
Presented were six qualitative research outputs on Practical Research I, five of which the Grade 12 students wrote. Three studies were quantitative, while the other two were qualitative.
The panelists included a young DepEd teacher, also a part-time college instructor, and a research enthusiast, Dr. Gorgonio B. Cabaňas III; two English language teachers from Sathon, Bangkok, Thailand: Mrs. Rossannex A. Pelicano from Satri Si Suriyothai, and Ms. Rona A. Bonotan from Assumption Convent Silom School. They provided technical assistance and various research inputs after the research presentation.
The school principal, Mr. Alberto M. Orias Jr., with Practical Research 1 and 2 Teacher Mr. Randy P. Lamanilao; Inquiries, Investigation, and Immersion Teacher Mrs. Gwen Marie C. Patan; and Statistics Teacher Mr. Jerome G. Loayon, congratulated the student-researchers for their outputs.
Mr. Randy P. Lamanilao spearheaded the launching of Tugkad. In Cebuano, "Tugkad" means "to touch the bottom." The meaning implies that research work is getting to the bottom of things to discover root causes and propose explanations to a phenomenon or provide solutions to identified problems, especially in the academic arena. The journal shall be released in print and non-print (online) versions before the year ends.
The forum ended with the awarding ceremony for students who garnered various recognitions in different categories.
