𝙱𝚢 𝙳𝚘𝚛𝚎𝚜 𝙿. 𝗛𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀, 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗼𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘂𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗘𝘅𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 (𝗟𝗘𝗧), 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗷𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝗘𝗱 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿. Chris John applied for a Teacher I position in DepEd Cabadbaran along with many other applicants with teaching experiences in private institutions, some of whom even had outstanding academic credentials. Because of this, he never considered himself a top prospect, and he knew he was in for the tough competition. But it didn't stop him. He prayed to God. After seven months of anxious waiting, God answered his prayer when he received a call from DepEd for his Advisory Order. He began his assignment in January 2019, handling the Indigenous People Education (IPEd) at the hinterland of Sitio Masundong, Brgy. Mahaba, Cabadbaran City. Knowing that the place was armed-conflict-stricken, he felt nervous. But he still mustered the courage to continue as he relied more on prayer and God's protection. He knew he was there for a purpose. As a teacher and advocate of Inclusive education, Teacher Chris understood the necessity of adapting to the culture. Hence, he took pains learning the local language, worldview, and way of life. As he worked on providing them the quality education they deserved, he learned to respect their cultural identity and heritage like never before. Teacher Chris believes that his work is not just a job but a mission. As such, it gives him the boldness to carry the torch that lights the darkness of illiteracy and unknowing in Cabadbaran City Division. The IPEd-implementing school at Sitio Masundong is in its 8th year of providing inclusive, culture-sensitive, and the right to quality culture-based education to indigenous learners, and Teacher Chris is happy and proud to be part of this mission, even as he is determined to continue his journey with his new-found vigor as a DepEd teacher.
